A laundry basket, six rolled socks and a few sheets of scrap paper are enough for a game afternoon. Clear a spot away from breakables and put the basket where everyone can reach it. Pick one game for a ten-minute break or let a different child lead each round.

Sock snowball toss

Give each player three rolled socks. Start one arm’s length from the basket and toss underhand. Each sock that lands inside earns a point. After a turn, the player can stay put or move a little farther away. For seated play, bring the basket to the player and let them choose the distance. A cooperative group can work toward ten baskets together.

Blizzard detective

Place five small objects on a tray. Let everyone study them for twenty seconds. Cover the tray with a towel while one player removes an object. Lift the towel and invite guesses. For a harder round, move two objects and ask what changed places. Children who prefer touch can explore the objects by hand before and after.

Paper trail

Draw a mitten, hat, boot and scarf on four sheets and arrange them on the table. The leader taps a two-picture sequence. Players repeat it, then the leader adds one more tap. Change leaders when the sequence reaches five. For a quieter game, players can point to the pictures in order while a partner checks.

Snowplow lanes

Place two strips of scrap paper on a table to mark a lane. Push a crumpled paper snowball from start to finish with the back of a spoon. Count how many gentle pushes it takes. Bend the lane around an empty cup for a second attempt. Two players can cooperate by each steering half of the route.

Reset in a minute. Toss the socks back into the basket, nest the spoon and cup inside, and tuck the picture cards under the handle. The whole set is ready if school closes for a second day.
