The easiest time to start a Friendsgiving game is after everyone has a plate. Give each end of the table a scrap of paper. Let people finish a bite before you read the next question. Two rounds of four questions fit between dinner and pie.

Thanksgiving Day (U.S.) date reference
Round one: What’s in the kitchen?
Read all four before revealing any answers. Give teams one point for each correct answer.
- Which utensil has a deep bowl on a long handle and is handy for serving gravy?
- What word means both a cooking instruction for batter and a way to close a napkin in half?
- A pie is cut into eight equal slices. Three guests each take one. What fraction of the pie remains?
- Which part of the plant do we eat in mashed carrots: root, leaf or flower?
Answers: A ladle. Fold. Five eighths. The root. Accept “5/8” or “five slices out of eight” for question three.
Round two: The host’s little puzzles
- Unscramble EIP into a dessert.
- Our menu has soup, squash, rolls and rice. Which two dishes begin with the same letter as “roast”?
- At a table of six, each guest passes a note one seat to the left at the same time. After how many passes will each original note be back with its writer?
- A recipe serves four. How many batches make twelve portions?
Answers: Pie. Rolls and rice. Six passes. Three batches. For a tie, let both teams design a question for the host and make the host guess first.
Guess the side dish
Before dinner, invite each guest to give the host one clue about a dish they brought or enjoy. “My grandmother always served this in the blue bowl” is a lovely memory but hard for newcomers to guess. Ask for a second clue based on shape, color or ingredients. Read both and let everyone guess the dish together. Invite the contributor to tell the blue-bowl story after the reveal.
Pass the imaginary potluck
The first guest says, “I’m bringing apples.” The next repeats apples and adds bread. Continue with foods in alphabetical order, letting the table supply hints whenever someone gets stuck. You can pause at any letter and pick up after dessert. A guest who arrives late can choose the next dish without repeating the list.
If children and adults are playing side by side, alternate who reads and who writes. Reserve one question per round for every team to answer at once, so a quick guess from one end of the table never spoils it for the other. For a larger gathering with room to move around, try the Thanksgiving family games guide.
A printable for this activity
Thanksgiving Trivia Questions and Fun Facts adds a separate holiday question round if your table asks to keep playing.
