St. Patrick’s Day Matcha Ice Cream Smoothies!

Every March 17, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in memory of the late Irish saint all over the world. It’s an annual festivity where parades, Irish traditional music sessions and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks are observed by many people, especially in Ireland.

During these days, the color green is very vibrant in all parts of the world. Even mothers at home prefer to wear and cook something green in observance of the special day. But, why do we wear green on St. Patrick’s Day?

According to legend, St. Patrick used to find three-leaved shamrocks and use them to explain the Holy Trinity to pagans. Since then, wearing green clothes, accessories and serving green food have been a practice that many people do.

St. Patrick’s Day is approaching, and I’m sure that you’re thinking of serving something green that is easy to make and would match the celebration. Thankfully, a cousin of mine just came back from Japan and brought me back this delicious Tsujiri Matcha Milk Powder which is, yes… colored green! Don’t worry it’s available to everyone on Amazon too!

If you’re not familiar with Matcha, it’s actually green tea leaves that are in powder form. For the Matcha Milk, it’s an instant powder that can be mixed with water for that refreshing green tea drink. No need to add sugar and milk since it’s already flavored.

With the Matcha Milk Powder in hand, I thought why not serve something that’s green and made with Matcha? If you’re hosting a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at home, this is a perfect time to introduce the delicious taste of Matcha to your friends and loved ones!

Notes:

  • If you can’t find the Matcha milk powder, you can use any Matcha powder available in the market. Take note though that they have stronger green tea flavor so lessen the measurement to 2 tablespoons. Also, pure Matcha powders are not yet sweetened, so add honey if you like or just let it be since the ice cream is sweet already.
  • For a dairy-free version, you can change the milk and ice cream.
  • Want a healthier smoothie? Freeze bananas and use them instead of ice cream
